Gemini is optional. It only improves the search experience by turning a sentence into hardware SKU or Hub keywords. Local catalog matching and direct Hub search still work without it; fit bands and tok/s never go through Google. The key stays in this browser, or in apps/web/.env.local as GEMINI_API_KEY (restart dev after that).
